NEW STATION IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, MAY 13

April 10, 2006 - Wales, WI.  The Wales Genesee Fire Department will hold an open house to debut its new fire station to the public, Saturday, May 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Residents are welcome to tour the new station, check out fire and rescue equipment, get free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, watch the arrival of the Flight for Life Helicopter (scheduled to land at noon in the station parking lot), and enjoy refreshments prepared by the Wales Genesee Fire Department Auxiliary.

Kids will also love having their photos taken while wearing full fire gear, visiting with Tanka - the Waukesha County Sheriff Department’s K-9 Dog from 1 to 3 p.m., chatting with Freddy the Fire Truck, and more!  Parking will be available at Wales Village Park on Brandy Brook road with regular shuttles to and from the station.

“We’re very pleased to have this opportunity to share our new home with the community that made it possible and for which it was built to protect,” says Wales Genesee Fire Department Chief, Gregory Jezak.  “This fire station is a tribute to the Wales Genesee community and should be appreciated by all.”

Completed in November 2005, the new station – located on Highway 83 just north of Highway DE – has been a long time in the making.  Ten years, three Chiefs, and many department members have come and gone in the effort to make this facility a reality.

The new station open house occurs in conjunction with Emergency Medical Services Week, May 14 through 20.  This annual campaign was designed by the American College of Emergency Physicians to bring local communities and medical personnel together to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide day-to-day lifesaving services.  The theme of this year’s EMS Week is “Serving on Healthcare’s Frontline.”  For more information go to:  http://www.acep.org/webportal/Advocacy/ems/week/
