1) Materials Recycling Facility Open House

     Come and tour our local recycling facility and see how the recycling

     process works up close!  Fun and educational for the whole family, hosted

     by Waukesha County's recycling staff.

    

     When?   April 17th, 10 am until 12 pm

     Where?  220 S. Prairie Ave., Waukesha, WI.

     Cost?     Free!

 

2) Movie Showing: No Impact Man

    The award winning documentary about a man and his family who live one full

     year without modern conveniences in an effort to reduce their carbon

     footprint.  A small-group discussion will be facilitated after the movie to

     share community thoughts on reducing our impact.

 

     When?   April 22nd, 6:00 pm

     Where?  Pewaukee Public Library, 210 Main St. Pewaukee, WI.

     Cost?     Free!

3) Greener Oconomowoc Earth Day Resource Fair

     GO's annual community resource fair.  Exhibits and displays hosted by various green

     organizations.  Eat a locally-sourced meal, meet local green business leaders, visit the kids

     corner!

 

     When?   April 24th, 11 am until 3 pm

     Where?  Oconomowoc High School Fieldhouse.

     Cost?     Free!

 

4) Free! Composting Demonstrations

     When? April 24th

 

     1) Visit the outdoor Discovery Tour and Field Lab at Retzer and find out how to turn kitchen

     vegetable scraps and yard debris into compost- "the living soil".  Find some cool "decomposer"

     bugs. Plant and take home a vegetable seed and get a start on your garden. Children must be

     accompanied by an adult.

 

    Where?  Retzer Nature Center, 12 pm until 1pm

 

    2) Learn about how to make home composting work for you from a Wisconsin Master

        Gardener and expert composter.

 

     Where? Oconomowoc Landscape Supply & Garden Center, 11 am

    

 

5) Discover Rain Gardens and Rain Barrels Workshop

     Learn about rain gardens and rain barrels - how they work and what they do for the

     environment.  You will learn how to plan and install a rain garden, as well as some basics

     about rain barrel construction, or what to look for in buying a barrel.

 

 

     When?   April 24th, 1 pm until 2 pm

     Where?  Retzer Nature Center    

     Cost?     Free!
