TOWN OF GENESEE ZONING
At the present time the Town of Genesee is under Waukesha County zoning
NEWS FROM THE TOWN CHAIRMAN
TOWN ZONING CODE
Genesee, along with the towns of Oconomowoc and Vernon, has assisted in drafting a towns bill through the office of Senator Paul Farrow. This bill has the support of Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas and the Waukesha County towns. Senator Farrow is preparing the bill for sponsorship in the legislature. At this writing, we do not have an official bill number, but the draft number is 1900/2. Seven towns in Waukesha County already have their own zoning codes. This bill provides that even if all eleven towns in the County were to have their own town zoning codes and no longer operate under the Waukesha County Zoning Code, the towns would still agree to abide by the Waukesha County Comprehensive Land Use Plan. The towns will remain under the County’s Shoreland Ordinance. However, a town with its own zoning code will handle everyday services such as zoning and building permits, site plan, plan of operation and conditional use approvals at the Town level. This will be a welcome convenience to Genesee’s residents and businesses. We hope to see this bill pass before the end of the year. You can see a copy of this bill and related information and check its progress at www.towngenesee.org. You will also find contact information for your Waukesha County legislators at our website and at www.legis.wisconsin.gov. Please support this bill with your calls, letters and if possible, your testimony in its favor when it comes up for a hearing
